Wa Ode Dwi Daningrat

DPhil Student in Clinical Medicine

About Me

Dwi is an Indonesian scholar pursuing a DPhil in Clinical Medicine at the University of Oxford. Her main research interests are vaccine impact evaluation and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profile of Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) and the utilisation of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to investigate bacterial-caused infectious diseases determinants and mechanisms from genomic perspective.

Following graduation with a major in Epidemiology from the University of Indonesia in 2015, she has been involved in several collaborative projects between Eijkman Institute and the US-CDC since 2016 on pneumococcal carriage studies, vaccine impact evaluation, and AMR profiling in Indonesia.  She was also involved in a collaborative project with US-CDC, partnering with top referral hospitals in Indonesia to strengthen AMR surveillance on S. pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae in the country by improving the capacity of detection from invasive specimens.

She received the 2018 International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) Research Grant Award for her research on the AMR profile of S. pneumoniae. She was granted an award in AMR by ISID and the Center for Disease Dynamics, Economics and Policy (CDDEP) for this work in 2019.

She received a scholarship from the Indonesia Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology and the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education in 2021 to pursue a DPhil at Oxford. Under the supervision of Prof David Aanensen at the Centre for Genomic Pathogen Surveillance (CGPS), Pandemic Sciences Institute, her DPhil research focuses on the genomic epidemiology of the viridans group streptococci with an emphasis on S. pneumoniae.
