Khalil Abu-Dahab

Senior Software Engineer & Architect

Khalil is a Senior Web Software Engineer and Architect at the Centre for Genomic Pathogen Surveillance (CGPS), a part of the Pandemic Sciences Institute at the University of Oxford.

His work centers on building and maintaining innovative software platforms that support genomic epidemiology and data visualisation. Khalil has played a key role in the development of several influential tools, including:

  • Microreact – An interactive web application for visualising and sharing genomic data.

  • PhyloCanvas – A WebGL-powered viewer for rendering complex phylogenetic trees.

  • Pathogenwatch – A global platform for genomic surveillance of microbial pathogens.

  • Data-flo – A flexible tool designed for data integration and workflow automation.

  • Pangolin COVID-19 Lineage Assigner – A tool for Phylogenetic Assignment of Named Global Outbreak LINeages.

  • PANINI - A web application for Pangenome Neighbor Identification for Bacterial Populations using Barnes-Hut t-SNE

Khalil holds a PhD in belief rule-based knowledge modelling from Manchester Business School and was an active contributor to the COVID-19 Genomics UK (COG-UK) Consortium during the pandemic.
