Study
Many PSI Investigators across different departments supervise postgraduate students for study and research towards a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degree, which is the University of Oxford's equivalent of a PhD.
Applications for DPhil programmes open in September with deadlines in December or January. Check the individual calls and application guidance for the most up-to-date deadlines.
As well as playing an active role in their individual research groups, PSI DPhil students have opportunities to participate in PSI activities such as seminars, the PSI Annual Meeting, and the International Pandemic Sciences Conference. As the PSI student cohort grows, we are supporting student-led activities to strengthen this community.
The projects below are currently available for 2026-27 entry for applicants interested in studying for a DPhil with a PSI Investigator, but check the deadline on the University graduate webpage which gives up to a week's notice of closure. Please note that applications can no longer be considered for internal funding.
Projects for 2027-28 entry will be added from September 2026.

Funding
We are able to offer limited DPhil studentship support at PSI for students applying through departmental DPhil programmes thanks to the generosity of the Moh Family Foundation.
Please check the deadline for applications to be considered for internal funding, including Moh Family Foundation support, as this varies by department.
Other doctoral training opportunities
As well as its standard DPhil courses, the University of Oxford also offers four-year doctoral courses providing structured training and research experience in the first year, and a research project leading to a DPhil in subsequent years.
PSI Investigators and researchers are part of the supervisory pool for two centres for doctoral training:

- The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistics and Machine Learning at Imperial and Oxford (application deadline in January; check how to apply)
