About Me
Dwi is an epidemiologist completing a DPhil in Clinical Medicine at the University of Oxford, focusing on Microbial Genomics. Using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and data-driven approaches, her main research interests are population dynamics within microbial populations, examining inter- and intraspecies interactions across different bacterial species, with a particular focus on the genus of Streptococcus (S.).
Following graduation with a major in Epidemiology from the University of Indonesia, she has been involved in several collaborative projects on pneumococcal studies, vaccine impact evaluation, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiles of multiple bacterial species in Indonesia. She was also involved in a collaborative project with the US-CDC, partnering with top referral hospitals in the country to strengthen AMR surveillance of S. pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae by improving detection capacity from invasive specimens.
She received the 2018 International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) Research Grant Award for her research on the AMR profile of S. pneumoniae. In 2019, she was granted an award in AMR by ISID and the Center for Disease Dynamics, Economics and Policy (CDDEP) for this work.
Under the supervision of Prof David Aanensen, Dr Nabil-Fareed Alikhan, and Dr Sophia David at the Centre for Genomic Pathogen Surveillance (CGPS), Pandemic Sciences Institute, her DPhil research focuses on the population structure of the viridans group streptococci (VGS), with an emphasis on the evolutionary dynamics across species of VGS that may influence the rapid capsular evolution and diversity observed in S. pneumoniae.
