Lucie is the deputy group leader of the Pathogen Dynamics Group.
Her main focus currently is the CEPI-funded PRESTO project (www.presto-modelling.org) which develops simulations and vaccine trial designs for "X" versions of priority pathogens (Nipah, MERS, EVF, Lassa, Chikungunya) as well as "disease X". The team assesses what would need to change epidemiologically for a given pathogen to cause a regional epidemic or global pandemic, how an outbreak of the "X" version of the pathogen might look like epidemiologically and what the best vaccine trial design for such an outbreak would be. She also has an interest in the ethical implications of infectious disease epidemiology.
After gaining a PhD in immunology from the University of Heidelberg, Lucie conducted research at King's College London and the Francis Crick Institute before joining Christophe Fraser's group in Oxford in 2017. During the pandemic, she was part of the team that laid the scientific foundation for the use of contact tracing apps in pandemics and helped to implement the NHS COVID-19 contact tracing app for England and Wales.
Lucie enjoys working in interdisciplinary teams, big picture science and translation of research results into policy.
